Bluemetal Vineyard aims to produce wines with fresh fruit characters and complexity, wines that are different and sometimes a little controversial!

The wines are made exclusively from the 26 acre vineyard on Hurdle Ridge. It is the highest vineyard in the Southern Highlands at 790 metres above sea level and this combined with rich, free draining soils, makes it an excellent vineyard site.

The vineyard lies over a cap of basalt rock, known in Australia as blue metal – hence our name.

The seven varieties planted were chosen to suit the long ripening season which allows the full fruit flavours of the wines to develop.

The white varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viognier.

The reds are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese.

The owners, Alex and Sam Scott, who live in the United Kingdom, have a passion for wine and close family connections in Australia.

Recognising the potential of the Southern Highlands as a wine growing district, they bought the property and planted this vineyard in 1999. As the vines matured and the first vintage approached, Sam’s sister, Louise Horsley, became involved and Louise is now responsible for the overall management of the vineyard and marketing the wines.
